The magic of a new beginning! We are officially back in Komodo National Park, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and we couldn't have asked for a more spectacular start to the 2026 season. From February 20th to 27th, the EcoPro Duyung Baru opened its decks for the very first time this year, welcoming guests to explore the pristine reefs of Indonesia after the seasonal break.

While the week through reefs of Komodo Central brought some tropical swells and also some rain, the world beneath the surface was electric – a true "manta-fest" to kick off the year.

For our team and our guests, it was the perfect homecoming to one of the world’s premier diving destinations.

A Grand Opening: The Manta Spectacle at Mawan

The first tour of the season set the bar incredibly high. By the second day at Mawan, we were greeted by over 20 manta rays circling the group for the entire dive. It felt as though these ocean giants had been waiting for the EcoPro Duyung Baru to return to their cleaning stations.

The excitement was so contagious that at Makassar (Manta Point), our guests collectively voted to skip their usual longer surface interval. Our crew displayed peak "season-start energy" with a lightning-fast tank change. It's been described by the guests as "Indonesian F1" – allowing everyone to jump right back in for a second hour of shallow-water manta bliss.

Walk with the Komodo Dragons Between Currents and Coastal Treks

Despite the fresh water temperatures of 25–26°C and visibility ranging from 10–15 meters, the reefs were vibrant and full of life. We conquered the legendary strong currents at Batu Bolong and enjoyed an exhilarating 15-minute "flying drift" at Siaba Kecil.

The land excursions were equally rewarding, featuring the iconic trek to the Padar Island viewpoint.

It's not just a lizard – spotting a Komodo Dragon makes you feel like being in Jurassic Park

But the season's first trip wouldn't be complete without visiting the park's most famous residents: the Komodo dragons. A major highlight for our guests was the opportunity to see these prehistoric apex predators in their natural habitat.

The encounters with the dragons provided a thrilling land-based contrast to our underwater adventures. Witnessing these magnificent creatures is a powerful reminder of the unique biodiversity we are committed to protecting here in the park.

"We Care" – Passion and Sustainability from Day One

A season opener is the ultimate test for our team, and they rose to the occasion with heart. We are especially proud of our kitchen lead, Wiky, who served excellent, hot meals using our new lidded pans.
