More than a fantastic diving trip, what else is to expect aboard EcoPro Duyung Baru?

Komodo National Park

If you’re planning a diving trip to Komodo, chances are you already know that the island offers a diverse array of activities extending beyond the spectacular underwater adventures. The first thing that likely comes to mind is seeing the famous Komodo Dragon, which has become synonymous with the island's identity.

On this blog, we will explore the different land excursions you can expect, other than the exceptional diving activities, when you join the EcoPro Duyung Baru liveaboard trip in Komodo.

First on the list is, of course, a visit to the legendary Komodo Dragons.  On every trip aboard the EcoPro Duyung Baru, our team will bring you to Komodo Village, a homely traditional fishing village located on Komodo Island. This is a one-hour tour of the quaint village, wherein you get a glimpse of the unhurried local life and how they live in close connection with the main attraction of the island, the Komodo Dragons.  The guide will then take you up the hill, where you can admire the unobstructed view of the sea and village below.  On your descent, you will stop at the Dragon Nest in search of the Komodo Dragons.  As you enter the heart of the Komodo Dragon territory, the overall landscape will transport you into a prehistoric-like atmosphere.  Once you see a massive mound of earth, you will know that it’s just a matter of time, and soon you will see what you came for. You’ll probably see one or two dragons patrolling the ground or just resting in the shade.  Towards the end of the tour, you’ll head back to the village, and will be given the time to wander around and check out the local handmade crafts that you may want to buy and bring home as a souvenir.

Another popular and frequently requested land excursion is the hike on Padar Island.  The hiking trail is a well-maintained concrete path (800 steps to be exact) with a gradual slope.  Depending on your fitness level, the trek can take about 45 minutes to an hour.  The hike can be considered moderately challenging in terms of difficulty, but overall manageable. Whether it is your first time hiking or you're a seasoned expert hiker, this is an excursion you should not miss.  Once you reach the top, you will be greeted with a panoramic view of the three bays.  A unique sight to see, with three different coloured sands - pink, white, and black.

Depending on the length of the trip, a visit to the beach, specifically the pink beach, can also be included upon request.  This rare and beautiful natural wonder is a highlight for many guests.  The beach gets its unique colour from the mixture of the powdery white sand and the red microscopic coral fragments. This creates the shimmering pink hues shoreline, a perfect backdrop for your Instagram shoot. In case the trip to the pink beach is not possible, there are also other beautiful beaches to explore.

If you are travelling in a group, a full charter of EcoPro Duyung Baru is highly recommended.  This option offers your group more freedom and flexibility to create your own itinerary and the length of stay.  You can design your trip to focus more on either diving or snorkelling, or just a leisurely cruise around the island, complemented by different land excursions. Whatever you choose, our team will surely make your trip a truly memorable experience.
