Our Maldives Deep South liveaboard diving route is famous for currents, remote dive sites, and unforgettable shark encounters.
Maldives Deep South Liveaboard Route Overview
Our recent Maldives Deep South Tour on the EcoPro Mariana was a true roller coaster of adrenaline-pumping drifts and wildlife encounters that stay with you long after you've rinsed your gear.
With 15 guests on board, we set out to explore the remote channels between Gan and Male. This trip was particularly special as we had several guests on board who had already completed the previous tour from Male down to Gan. These "back-to-back" adventurers were eager to see the highlights from a different perspective as we made our way back up north.
Shark Encounters in the Deep South Maldives
Fuvahmulah delivered the goods almost immediately. While the plateaus showed us the raw power of Maldivian currents, we could see an absolute firework of tiger sharks. Seeing these majestic predators in such clear water is a bucket-list moment for any experienced diver.
As we moved into Gaafu Alifu, the "Deep South" character really took over. At Villingili Kandu, we hit the jackpot with a massive wall of grey reef sharks and silver tips. One of our guests, Gary, who was part of the group joining us for both legs of the journey, was so thrilled he ended up with a total of five dives at this spot!

Why Small Group Diving Matters in Strong Currents
When the currents became a bit more challenging at spots like Muli Corner, the benefit of our setup becomes clear. We specialize in diving with small group sizes because it allows our guides to react instantly. When the current split, our experienced team ensured that those who reached the split had a stunning show, while others were guided safely inside. This personal supervision is exactly what makes the Mariana experience so special. Nobody is just a number in the water, especially for our returning friends who appreciate our consistent safety standards.
Night Encounters & Channel Diving Highlights

One of the most magical moments happened when several of the guests were already dreaming of the next reef.
A Whaleshark paid us a visit right at the back of the boat during the night! Those who were hearing the cabin door knocking rushed to the deck to see this gentle giant under the stars.
You can imagine how happy they were about being light sleepers.
The middle of the trip was a masterclass in channel diving:
Kurali Manta Point: 5 Mantas dancing for us, a perfect break from the high-energy drifts.
Fushi Kandu: Breathtaking visibility with around 40 sharks and schools of baby grey reefs.
Golden Wall: Soft corals, octopus, and sexy shrimps in a vibrant drift.
Sustainable Diving in the Maldives Deep South
Being part of the EcoPro family means we don't just dive; we protect.
During the trip, we had some interesting discussions about local practices. When asked about shark feeding, we stood our ground: for us, feeding is a no-go. We prefer the authentic, raw encounters that come from respecting the natural behavior of marine life.
We wrapped up the tour moving through Vaavu and North Male.
Our final dive at Cocoa Corner provided the "full package": 25 sharks and a formation of 10 eagle rays cruising alongside us for ten minutes.

Life on Board EcoPro Mariana
After experience-packed dives, our beloved Chef Sampath ensured the energy levels stayed high with a variety of extremely tasty creations.
The absolute standout was his legendary steak night, which has become a true must-have for our guests.
Sampath is doing the pure magic in his kitchen. We believe that even if you stay completely dry on the diving cruise, this food alone will make you smile!
Maybe he'll share one of his secret recipes with you on your next tour with us.
