The Southern Atolls of the Maldives offer a raw, untouched beauty that remains a bucket-list destination for those seeking the pinnacle of Indian Ocean diving.
Recently, we welcomed a group of enthusiastic divers, mainly from Poland, aboard our flagship, the EcoPro Seascape, for a journey through the deep south, from Kooddoo to Gan. This modern, 43-meter yacht served as the perfect base for an expedition defined by massive shark walls, graceful rays, and the vibrant camaraderie that only life at sea can provide.

Shark Encounters and Midnight Guests
Our adventure began in the Vilingili area, where the crystal-clear visibility immediately reminded us why the Maldives Deep South is so iconic.
At Kooddoo Spinner Point, the "shark show" was in full swing; despite a few other boats in the area, our guests were treated to a spectacular display of grey reef sharks patrolling the currents.
The magic of a Maldives liveaboard often happens when you least expect it. After an easy night dive along a lush reef near Whale Shark Point, the "big fish" decided to make a brief appearance right behind the EcoPro Seascape’s swim platform. While a few early birds had already retired to their cabins, those still enjoying a drink on deck were rewarded with a breathtaking sighting of a whale shark gliding through the dark water.
Drifting Through Channels and Sandbank Celebrations
As we moved into day three, the diving reached a "superb" status. Vilingili Kandu delivered exactly what our guests were dreaming of: a massive wall of sharks and stunning visibility that seemed to stretch forever.
These deep-south channels can be demanding, but our expert guides ensure that even in "washing machine" currents, safety remains the absolute priority.
Beyond the bubbles, the EcoPro experience is about connection. When a planned visit to a specific sandbank was thwarted by the shifting tides, we simply pivoted to another pristine stretch of white sand. Under the Maldivian sun, our guests enjoyed fresh Kurumba (Dhivehi for coconut) and an impromptu salsa dancing session on the beach. We had so much fun!
This blend of high-adrenaline diving and joyful relaxation is the heartbeat of our sustainable liveaboard diving philosophy – respecting the ocean while celebrating its gifts.

Manta Magic and Island Traditions
The latter half of the trip brought us to Gemanafushi and Manta Maa Kandu. Gemanafushi was a standout "easy drift," where eagle rays and sharks hovered effortlessly in the blue, allowing every diver in the group to soak in the view without struggle.
For many, the highlight was the cleaning station at Manta Maa Kandu. With medium incoming current and excellent visibility, four manta rays circled gracefully, providing several of our guests with their very first manta sighting.
To toast to a successful week, we headed ashore for a traditional BBQ dinner on the beach. It was a night of stars, sand, and stories, lasting well into the evening. At EcoProDivers, we believe that education is just as important as the dive itself; during this
week, our guides shared insights into the delicate Gaafu Alifu ecosystem and our commitment to avoiding single-use plastics on board, ensuring that these reefs remain vibrant for the next generation of explorers.
