There is a special kind of magic that happens when a group of strangers meets on the deck of the EcoPro Mariana.

This past week in the Maldives Central Atolls was a perfect example: a mix of long-time repeater friends and fresh faces embarking on their very first liveaboard adventure. As we pulled away from the jetty, the air was thick with anticipation for the blue waters ahead and the shared experiences that only a "home away from home" like the Mariana can provide.

Living The Mermaid Dream on EcoPro Mariana

From Morning Mermaids to Advanced Skills

The week was a beautiful balance of different passions. While a large group of our guests focused on leveling up their skills through their Advanced Open Water course, others took a more ethereal approach to the ocean.

We dedicated a stunning morning to Mermaiding on a shallow, sun-drenched reef. Watching our guests glide through the water on a single breath, practicing freediving and underwater photography in its purest form, was a serene contrast to the bubbles of scuba. At EcoProDivers, we love tailoring these moments so that everyone, from the hardcore diver to the breath-hold explorer, feels the heartbeat of the reef.

The Raw Beauty of the Deep

When it comes to sustainable liveaboard diving, the North Ari and South Ari Atolls never disappoint. We believe in being quiet observers of the ocean's natural rhythms, and our patience was rewarded tenfold at Bathalaa Thila. We found ourselves surrounded by roughly 25 sharks patrolling the reef edges: a powerful, humbling sight that reminds us why protecting these waters is at the core of our "We Care" philosophy.

The highlights kept coming. Our night dive with Manta rays was pure theater; these gentle giants hovered in our lights for nearly 70 minutes, dancing just inches away from our masks. Later, at the iconic Fish Head, the visibility was so sharp it felt like looking through glass, revealing a rare nursery of 15 juvenile silvertip sharks tucked away in the deep.

Safety, Growth, and Island Soul at Maldives Central Atolls

Diving in the Maldives is famous for its currents, and this week provided some great learning opportunities. Safety is our absolute priority, and our guides worked closely with our newer divers to build their confidence, teaching them how to read the water and drop into a site with precision. It’s about more than just the dive; it’s about the growth that happens between the entry and the safety stop.

Off the boat, we kept traditions alive with a classic beach BBQ on the shores of Dhigurah. There’s nothing quite like sharing a meal on the sand under a Maldivian starscape to turn a group of divers into a community.

We finished the trip with a literal "firework" of fish life at Miyaru Kandu: a high-energy channel dive that sent everyone home with salt in their hair and big smiles on their faces.
